Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Marriages and Funerals are important life events that are celebrated in the church.

Baptisms

Baptism is an act of God's grace. Whether the person is an infant, a teenager or an adult it makes no difference. When a person is baptised God says "This is now my son, my daughter". Baptism brings a person into the family of God's people, the church. It is the first step on a journey which is to continue throughout life. It is the beginning of a wonderful relationship with God. To support the new baptismal life of children, God calls on parents and godparents to pray for their child and be an example of the Christian life. They will teach their child about God and bring their child to worship. Prior the baptism parents are asked to meet with the pastor to talk about the meaning of baptism and the implications of baptism for the person to be baptised and for the parents.

Baptisms are generally conducted during the regular worship services.

First Communion

A course is available for children from 10 years of age. Contact Pastor for more details.

Confirmation

Young people who are in Year 8 are encouraged to complete a course of instruction in the Christian Faith and the teachings of the Lutheran Church. Upon completion of this course they are invited to confirm their faith in the Rite of Confirmation.

Adults are also invited to learn more about the Christian Faith and teachings of the Lutheran Church and can attend a series of discussion led by Pastor from time to time. Following this course they are also invited to confirm their faith and become members of the Lutheran Church and St. Michael's.

Weddings

St Michael's Lutheran Church, Hahndorf is available for weddings during the year, however all weddings must be officiated by a Pastor of the Lutheran Church. Enquiries may be made by ringing the pastor or via email.

PREPARE

PREPARE stands for Premarital Personal And Relationship Evaluation. This is a relationship inventory designed to help individuals discover some of the basic strengths and growth areas in their relationship. Couples individually respond to statements and complete a survey sheet. These responses are sent away for analysis and returned within the fortnight. A feedback session is held with each couple and the strengths of their relationship is discussed as well as any areas that may require attention. PREPARE is intended to help the couple build on the strengths in their relationship and so be better prepared for the commitment of marriage.

DOCUMENTS

It is important to note that the following documents need to be presented to the minister celebrating your marriage. The Notification of Intended Marriage form must be completed at least one month before the wedding. Birth Certificates and Certificates of death, divorce (Decree Absolute) or Annulment as applicable will need to be produced by the couple.

FURTHER INFORMATION

If you like further information please send an email to the Pastor or ring 08 8388 1225.

Funerals

Death is a time of great pain. Funeral services are very important for those who have been saddened by the loss of someone close. Amidst the tears and farewells, a funeral provides an opportunity to be comforted with the hope of the resurrection to eternal life, to thank God for what the loved one has meant to them, to entrust that person to the love of God, and to reflect on our own lives and the hope that we have for the future. The pastor can help you structure the service, select Bible Readings and hymns/songs, prepare the obituary. When you are planning a funeral with the Funeral Director contact the pastor as soon as possible.
